I am not an expert at opera but have come to appreciate it in recent years. This is a 2-disc album that you fully get your money's worth, as it is filled with some of the very best favorites from the world of opera, performed by the best opera singers of our time. I recently did a cross country trip, and transformed some very boring stretches with a wonderful night at the opera thanks to having enough time to listen to it all the way through! I live less than 2 hours from NYC, so thanks to this album, I have a much better idea of which opera(s) I will now go see at the Met!

We were looking for a collection to open our enjoyment of opera, we read the reviews and purchased several compendiums and this is the most loved, most played.This one has proved the most listened to. I am not particularly a fan of opera but do realize it's merit. I also appreciate the talent of it's artists. This 2 disc set offers a wide, wisely chosen selection from most of the popular operas, performed by most of the world's greatest singers, present and yesteryear. Yes, you will find legends such as Maria Callas to Pavarotti to the up and coming Roberto Alagna and Angela Gheorghiu; sharing space on these discs. Economically, I was able to obtain this set for under ten bucks. My research could not find a more varied set with such a stellar roster at any price. It will impress any novice to seasoned collecter. I wish that EMI annotated the set better, a brief synopsis of each track would have tutorial value. The sound reproduction flows seemlessly from track to track.

This is billed as "the greatest opera stars on one double album for the first time ever." Many major voices of the first part of the past half century are presented on this CD (e.g., Shwartzkopf, Moffo, Freni, de los Angelos, Sutherland, Callas, Gedda, Merrill, Bjoerling, Pavarotti, Sutherland, Domingo, et al.). Also represented are some more contemporary singers, among whom are Kanawa, Gheorgiu, Alagna, Dessay, and so on). So, a nice album. But we are also reminded of the absence of some major figures on CDs (such as Richard Tucker, who is little represented on CDs). . . . Hopefully, in future years, more of those glorious voices will become accessible on CD.

Kind of corny story lines, but what can I say? I like corny story lines sometimes. I bought these for getting me through rush hour traffic around Atlanta; that being said, the balance achieved between the craziness of today and the relaxed nature of the stories is worth it!

This is a premier western adapted from one of the best western writers. How can you beat a cast of Sam Elliot and Tom Selleck? Highly recommended. With Louis L'Amour doing the narration it is great.

Selleck and Elliot team to bring an excellent tale of the early western families and the times in the 1860's. Both men seem to look the type we invision when we think of rough and tough cowboys/pioneers. This , I believe was made fo TV. Selleck and Elliot both made several western type movies for TV and I liked them all. If you are a western fan, you can't go wrong, and the stars are ruggedly good looking so the ladies will enjoy the story also. Well woth the watch.

Being a lover of westerns, both books and movies, I've been a fan of Louis L'Amour for many years. I've had a VHS copy of this movie and was only too happy to purchase a DVD version, because I've watched it about 4 times already, I will pull it out every couple of years and watch it again. Would have to rate as one of the Best.

I love Louis L'Amour, especially his epic series: The Sacketts. The stories are believable, tautly written and accessible for just about anyone. Unfortunately, the same cannot not be said about this movie, which is based upon two of the stories: The Daybreakers and Sackett. With great anticipation I watched this movie. I wanted to enjoy it, but no matter how hard I tried I coundn't for one simple reason: The acting is atrocious! Tom Selleck is awful. Mercedes McCambridge is awful (really awful), and sadly, worst of all is Glenn Ford. The best acting comes from the veterans Ben Johnson and Sam Elliot, barely. What frustrates me is that these are talented actors! What kind of direction were they receiving from Robert Totten?? "One take and next scene" must have been his credo. Really disappointing. Don't waste your money. Read the books instead.

My husband and I have become fans of Sam Elliott. After watching The Quick and the Dead, we just had to order Conagher. We were not disappointed in this family-friendly movie. Sam Elliott remains the classic western actor in this one as well. Katherine Ross also does a fine job in her role as widow, Evie Teale.

Just like the Virginian or any of Zane Grey's heroes, L'Amour's gentlemen, Conagher, is a true hero. He is a larger than life man who knows who he is and lives by his own code; a code of honest integrity. I have been privileged to know one or two of these types and they are rare; but that is what makes Conagher worth watching.

An hombre very tough meets a ready made family while trailing rustlers as a range cowboy. As westerns go this is probably a new classic. It has Indian fights, lonesome death on the trail by accident, stagecoaches and real cowboys, fighting rustlers. To top that off there is a love story...

A good old time western in the typical Louis L'Amour style. Sam Elliott does a good job in the character of Conager. A time when right had a right to hold it's own. A good western well worth buying. You can't top Louis L'Amour.....good acting by all.

Sam Elliot and Katharine Ross are, as always, awesome in this movie! They make a wonderful team who I think portray Louis Lamour's story exactly the way he envisioned as he was writing the book. It is a classic western movie and a wonderful tribute!

I was disappointed that the last track of one of the stories wasn't playable. The other discs were all good. Shipping was quick.

It is often hard to find a gift for my husband who has everything - but this fit the bill just perfect. I personally have not listened to it - but my spouse says it is very good.

This is a fantastic audio experience. I love audio books on road trips. I download them into my iPod so I don't have to fiddle with discs while I'm driving. Even if the stories aren't that great, a reader can more than make up for it. Not the case with Louis L'Amour, of course, so The Highwaymen were just frosting on the cake. It's a shame they all aren't around to collaborate on some more good ol' westerns. The sound effects were a nice surprise as well. I keep dreaming that Sam Elliot will offer up his voice for audio books.... Not to be missed.

This is great. Bought it for my father who so loves to read, but it is getting hard for him.

It got here within a week and my Dad just about has it worn out already! Thank you

This was purchased for my grandfather as a gift. L'Amour is his favorite writer. He has just about every one of his books. His sight is not so good now, so these books on cd have been wonderful. He can still enjoy his westerns.

Being retired, I enjoy listening to books on CD. This was a good western by Louis L'Amour. Enjoy.

Very good. Each story had a great life of it's own. Can't wait to get into vol 2. Dave

The stories draw you in; a good, clean escape from the present. The characters and situations are very realistic, yet are not gory, nor do they sugarcoat life. Very entertaining; I found myself wishing the drive to work/home was a little longer.

The stories in "The Collected Bowdrie Dramatizations: Volume II" are great additions to my Bowdrie CD collection. They are well done and provide continuous storyline. I can't wait for Volume III!
